Brunch at Big Jones – Delicious, kid friendly and they accept reservations!

I love going to brunch, but I have to admit that we go a lot less often now that we have kids.  It seems like most places in the city have a really long wait.  I am not a fan of waiting 45 minutes to be seated, and I can assure you that the idea is even less popular with my two-year-old and one-year-old.  That is why I practically squealed with delight when I learned that Big Jones (5347 Clark St.) accepts reservations.  What a novel idea…reservations for brunch!

Not only is the space unique and cheery with a New Orleans vibe, but the food was AMAZING.  I honestly had one of the best breakfasts of my life.

Here is the skinny:

After a fabulous meal here with friends of our who are also expecting their first baby (we were both around 7 months pregnant at the time), the owner came over to our table to check on our experience AND to tell us she hoped we’d be back with our babies once they arrived. What a nice thing to say to two expectant moms who worried that our dining out days were numbered! Kid friendly indeed!

You will be surprised at how many family friendly options there are in the city. My hubby and I went to Sushi Samba on Thursday. Kid friendly sushi restaurants are hard to find, but Sushi Samba has a kids menu, LOTS of highchairs and the food was delicious.

I am actually launching a website later this summer that will provide restaurant ratings based on how many highchairs they have, kids menu, changing stations, etc. We will also feature a kids eat free calendar (which you won’t need for a while). Its called gogogochicago.com, so stay tuned for more info. As a new mom, I am confident it will be a great resource for you.

Good luck with your new baby. Send me an email when your baby is born (cindymccarthy@onthegochicago.com), and I’ll send you some tips on fun things to do with infants (e.g. yoga with your baby, movie theaters that welcome moms and infants on Tuesdays, etc.)
